Sweet Potatoes Sheperd's Pie

  • 800g of sweet potatoes (or pumpkin, butternut squash)

  • Green vegetables (broccoli, green beans, peas)

  • 2 onions

  • 1 garlic clove

  • 60g of almonds (or hazelnuts)

  • 600g of minced meat (lamb, beef, chicken or veal)

  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme

  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil

  • Salt, pepper and spices of your choice


Step 1

Peel and wash the sweet potatoes. Cut them into small pieces. Peel and chop the onions and garlic. Using a knife, crush the almonds.

Step 2

Steam the sweet potato until a knife blade easily pierces the flesh. Mash it using a potato masher. Stir vigorously.

Step 3

In a saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and fry the chopped onions and garlic for a few minutes. Add the meat and thyme. Season with salt and pepper and mix well. Cook over low heat for 10 minutes, stirring regularly. Taste and adjust as you wish.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 140 °C. Spread the meat mixture in a baking dish. Cover with the mashed sweet potato and bake for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with crushed almonds and grill for 5 minutes.

Step 5

Meantime, cook the green vegetables as you see fit.

Get the plate out of the oven when it's ready. Serve hot
