Turning “No way, that’s impossible!” into “Heck yeah, I did it!”
1. Dream Big 🤯 Have you ever wondered, "Can I really do this?" If there's even a hint of 'maybe', then you should go for it! Take it from me – I jumped from my first marathon to a wild 175km run in just 8 months. Crazy? Maybe. Possible? Absolutely.
2. Make a Plan 📝 Create a strategy for the upcoming months leading to the race, detailing your training and preparation activities. The plan doesn't need to be rigid, but having this outline will provide you with a clear roadmap to follow.
3. Fear or Failure? Choose Neither 💪 Yeah, the fear will be real. But the thought of failing? A million times worse.
4. Start Now ⏳ You can't rewind time, so start from where you are. It's the only way. It’s not tomorrow, or next week. It’s today, now... the clock is ticking
5. Train Smart 🧠
Gradually increase your training load. Think long-term and avoid burnout. Your body’s a wonder machine that is capable of much more than you think, as long as you give it time to adapt.
6. Visualise Your Goal 🎯
Begin early to familiarise with the race. Dive into race reports, videos, and photos to get a feel for the environment. More importantly, create vivid mental images of yourself actively participating in the race, with a strong emphasis on visualising that moment when you cross the finish line.
7. Adapt Your Lifestyle 🤸♂️
This ambitious goal will probably require some adjustments. Early mornings, mindful eating, less partying. Embrace the challenge - it's all about stepping out of your comfort zone. The effort may be tough, but the long-term rewards are invaluable.
8. Set a Checkpoint ☑️
In the middle of your prepration, assess how far you've come and whether you need to step it up. For me, it was a 100km race. I was super nervous as it was the first time I’d run this far, but it felt amazing afterward.
9. Leave Nothing to Chance 🙇♂️
Plan every detail of your race day. How are you getting to the starting line? Got your breakfast sorted? What's your outfit going to be, considering the weather? Even the tiny details matter. This will bring you peace of mind.
10. Expect the Unexpected 🙅♀️
Anyway, it's almost sure that things will go side ways. The strategy lies in anticipating and preparing for various scenarios and reserve some mental space for unforeseen events.
11. Trust Your Training 🤝
You've dedicated months of hard work, sweat, and determination. Have confidence in yourself and recall all the training you've undergone. Think back to those early mornings spent training in the cold rain, all by yourself while the rest of the world was still asleep
12. Embrace the Pain 😈
It’s going to hurt. But remember, each ache and pain is a step in your journey. And they'll add to the incredible story you'll share with your friends later!
And there you have it – my guide to achieving the unthinkable. Remember, it's all about believing, preparing, and pushing through. If I can do it, so can you!
